Last weekend I attended one of my best friends baby shower, where my friend anxiously prepared for the arrival of her first baby. Many of us in attendance have been moms for years, with stories from our own experiences, both good and bad, and knowledge from testing out new products and baby gear with our own kids. My friend was there at the hospital after I gave birth to my oldest just a few months shy of ten years ago. How so many things have changed since then, yet so much is still just exactly the same.
I’m so excited to welcome my friends new baby, to share those new baby moments along with her and to be able to be here as a sounding board for all those little questions and situations that pop up as a new mom that no one tells you about. Being friends for as long as we have been, there are “no holds barred” when it comes to talking about just about everything and anything without fear of judgement, embarrassment or anything other than love.
At the shower, we chatted nursery decor and what things us as moms loved and what we didn’t need as much as we thought we would. Everyone seemed to love items like their space saver high chair because of its convenience and lack of bulkiness over the traditional ones. My friend and her husband are opting for an antique look in their nursery and while they are stocking their gear from Babies ‘R Us, they are buying their furniture at antique stores. I can’t wait to see the finished look!
One of the games we played was the dirty diaper game, where every guest gets a pin made of felt in the shape of a diaper and later at the shower everyone looks inside and sees who has a “dirty” one. Well, low and behold, guess who one of the “winners” was? LOL! Me!! I found this pretty hilarious considering how many diapers I have changed with my own kids and in the 7 years of doing the nursery at my church. I am not a newbie by any stretch at changing a stinky diaper and know just HOW important a good, reliable diaper is to a new mom!
