When the book Influencer Marketing For Dummies showed up on my doorstep – my daughter laughed at me. Surprised, I asked her why. She proceeded to tell me she had no clue why her mom, an avid reader and graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelors in Marketing and who works in social media would read a book that used the word “dummies” in the title.
This lead to a full blown and very enlightening conversation, in which I explained that you never stop reading, never stop learning, and never stop educating yourself in your field. Especially so if you are involved in an arena as ever-changing and one that is constantly shifting and evolving like the exciting world of social media and blogging. Never have I seen a more diverse realm of change, where how and when you influence is often so strongly affected by the climate of what is trending.
We mutually decided that reading the book Influencer Marketing for Dummies was in fact a very wise, smart decision and not a dumb one at all. If you are currently active in the online influencer demographic, this book hits on a lot of key points and gives sage advice as well as relevant statistics.
One take away that was so important to me, and one I made sure to emphasize to my daughter as well, was the third chapter titled “The Best Influencers: The Power of Women on Your Bottom Line.” As a single mom, I am constantly aware that my actions and decisions have such a strong emphasis on my two children. I want them to see women as strong, capable, and resilient. It was encouraging to read that women are not only the primary decision makers in the purchasing process but that women make the best influencers for a variety of reasons – including that women trust other women. How powerful is that?
Not only are women the primary decision makers for driving consumer purchases, but women make up the majority of social media users. Statistics show that having a strong social media presence results in sales for brands. Influencer Marketing For Dummies explores all this and will leave you feeling more confident in your own personal ability to engage and influence based on content. As a female blogger, it is encouraging to read not only tips but real statistics supporting our worth in the industry.
Taking it personal, when I first started blogging in 2010 I did it almost “under the radar.” I had a love of writing and creating marketing content from my education and professional backgrounds, but I was very unsure about putting it all “out there” which blogging really means. Leaving your thoughts and words, images and feelings, inner thinkings and personal commentary out there. Out there for anyone to read, to digest, to do with as they please. Over time, I came into my own with a deeper layer of confidence and as my level of comfort increased, so did my page views.
It’s all about doing what is best for you and using your voice to do so. Reading Influencer Marketing For Dummies is actually not a dumb idea at all, in fact – it’s a brilliant one. You’ll leave with updated knowledge, a deeper understanding of your value as an influencer, inspiration and clear and concise tips that will help you increase your pathway to success.
