All you need is a computer, laptop or mobile device!
Pennsylvania is in need of a better education funding system. Simply put, the money spent on education in our state is not equitably spread out and it is our children that are suffering due to the lack of resources available.
Campaign for Fair Education Funding Mission: Ensure that Pennsylvania adopts and maintains an adequate and equitable system of funding public education by 2016. Every public school must have the resources necessary to enable every child to meet state academic standards, be prepared for post-secondary success, and become productive, knowledgeable, and engaged adults.
I have seen, first hand, the differences that funding makes in our school system. Given access to computers helps students learn 21st century skills, which is vital in todays modern world. Arts and crafts supplies allow children to use their imagination, create projects, and witness their creations come to fruition in front of their eyes. Access to funds also provides enough gym equipment for students to engage in physical fitness and learn healthy lifestyle habits.
As a mother, I have seen my two children look forward to going to school every day, and even just this afternoon, I saw my sons sad face when he realized today was the last day of Gym class for the remainder of the school year. My son loves sports, and it makes me happy to see my children play, learn, jump!
Here is what students are saying!
Parents, you can get your children involved too – and it’s so easy to do! Hear Me, part of Carnegie Mellon University’s Create Lab, Hear Me amplifies kids’ voices using media and technology to create a world where kids are heard, acknowledged and understood, giving them the power to inspire social change. Recently, Hear Me interviewed students across Pennsylvania and produced a podcast about their thoughts on the current state of public school education funding. You can listen to the recording by visiting here.
