I’ll be completely honest that I have always had a “thing” for chef competition television shows. I look forward to tuning in to see the head to head competitions of culinary artistry, watching men and women transform a table of raw vegetables and proteins into savory masterpieces that would not only delight the eyes, but make my mouth water just looking at them. Those who work in the culinary field are artisans in their own right and I admire their imagination, creativity and bold sense of adventure.
At the forefront of the culinary scene has always been Marcus Samuelsson. I’ve followed him on the chef series Top Chef Masters, which he dominated and won, the Iron Chef series, and as a recurring judge on Chopped. If you are a foodie like I am, you will want to check out this show, currently one of the Food Network’s highest-rated series with a following of over 20 million viewers a month. You will be on the edge of your seat and feel inspired to get in the kitchen afterwards!
At just 24, Marcus Samuelsson was awarded the coveted three-stars from the New York Times as the Executive Chef at Aquavit. In 2003, the James Beard Foundation named him “Best Chef – New York City.” This was followed up in 2006 when he was honored with the “Best International Cookbook” for A Soul of a New Cuisine. Marcus currently owns a series of restaurants, primarily located in New York and Sweden, where Marcus was raised by his adoptive parents after his mother passed away when he was 3 years old.
