Eating healthy has always been something that is important to me. That being said, eating things I enjoy is also up there as well, so for me it has always been about finding a good balance in between what is the healthiest and what I tend to crave. A happy medium, you might say is my goal. While I love Greek salads and hummus, my Philly roots also mean a love for cheese steaks and soft pretzels.
With summertime came my bi-annual changing of seasonal clothing in my closets and drawers, and when I pulled out my summer shorts they were just a little too tight for my liking. I felt like I needed a jump start to eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, something to remind my body and my metabolism that the cold winter days were over and it was time to treat my body better! Doing a cleanse seemed a great way to give my body the pampering it needed.
After receiving three days of Garden of Flavor juices to try out, I was skeptical at first. This was my very first time trying something like this and the suggestions for starting the cleanse included avoiding or cutting down on coffee. Coffee!! Alas, I did skip coffee for day one but on day two I added a small cup. Old habits die hard.
The first juice in the cleanse was surprisingly delicious! A tangy blend of citrus, ginger and mint, Juice #1: Goji Pineapple was nothing short of yummy. I could drink one of these any day of the week and feel indulgent and hydrated.
Juices #2 and #3 (Cucumber Fresh and Mean Green) are vegetable based, and probably huge favorites for those used to juicing. It took me a little longer to get adjusted to the taste, which is not sweet, but they were refreshing and light.
The remainder of the cleanse includes a beet-based juice, “Twisted Roots”, a nut mylk based juice “White Knight” and a final juice that is tart and zesty, “Turmeric Tonic.” Overall, I found the progression between the juices to be a well-balanced one and there were such strong contrasts between the juices that I felt fuller and more satisfied throughout my day.
In full disclosure, I did the full cleanse on the first day and added in foods for days 2 and 3, which is suggested on their website. I felt my body and metabolism kick into gear and slept well at night after drinking the juices. All the juices are living and cold pressed, so there is absolutely nothing artificial or chemical in them whatsoever.
If you are looking for a healthy way to feel cleansed and refreshed, try incorporating Garden of Flavor juices into your diet or go for a cleanse! The experience felt wonderful and I look forward to doing one again!
