In today’s world, technology makes our lives so much more manageable and fast-paced. There are so many apps and websites for games and music, books and entertainment, but rarely do I hear about one that not only makes life easier but also makes it easier to stay healthy! When I was asked if I was interested in learning more about a new app that supports and encourages our health, I knew it was something I wanted to share with my readers. So many of us take medications plus have children and relatives we are responsible for too!
The Care4Today Mobile Health Manager 2.0, launched by Janssen Healthcare Innovation, is a free mobile platform and website that makes taking medications on time easy and efficient. With busy schedules, it is so easy to forget to take your medications at the same time every day or altogether. The Care4Today Mobile Health Manager helps you to take your medication on time and keeping those with serious and life-threatening illnesses on track towards recovery. With approximately 50% of patients not taking their medicine on-time or as prescribed, this app addresses a serious issue.
So, how exactly does this work? First you program the app (or website if you have a text-only cell phone) with all your daily medications, supplements, and tasks required for you to maintain optimal health. The Mobile Health Manager uses a two-way system of texting over mobile phones to remind you to take your medication and also provides a report and summary of medications taken that you can share with your doctor. It works on most cell phones, so you don’t have to have an iPhone or Blackberry to use it! The app can be downloaded from their website, Google Play, or the iPhone App Store. (Did I mention it’s free?!)
My favorite feature of Care4Today is the Care4Family feature that allows you to add family members to your account or to the account of a loved one. You can add up to 15 family members. For example, if you have an elderly parent or loved one that you are concerned about, you can link to their account and be notified if they are late for or miss a medication. This is also great for two-household families so both parents know if their child has taken their medication that day.
In my own family, I have two children with allergies, one of which also suffers from asthma. I cannot tell you how many times I have lost sleep over his asthma and constantly stress over whether he took his medicine. If he sleeps over Grandma’s house, I can rest easy by checking the app on my phone and not have to make constant calls to their house to make sure. Peace of mind is priceless!
An additional benefit of using Care4Today is the Care4Charity program that rewards users who take their medication on time by donating money to charity for every day they do so. From now until May 17, 2014, Janssen Healthcare Innovation will donate 5 cents for every day medication is taken on time. More information on this program, current participating charities, and the caps on the donation amounts can be found on their website.
Making life simpler is always something beneficial, and a platform that helps us put our health and the healthcare of our loved ones at forefront in our lives is such a gem. I am a huge fan of Care4Today and thrilled to be able to share it with you!
