I’ll admit it – I’ve never run a marathon before or participated in a timed race. While I did do the Relay for Life before, the idea of running full-throttle among some serious hard core runners has always intimidated me. I considered joining in before but then last October broke my ankle and all exercise came to a halt. I’ve been thinking about how to get back into fitness and running ever since.
Recently a friend of mine asked me to join her running team benefiting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a non-profit organization who’s goal is “fighting childhood cancer one cup at a time.” Our team is the Delaware Valley Bloggers and our goal is to raise 10K!!! The Million Mile Run allows you to run or walk at your own pace, individually or with friends. The fundraising and mileage count continues throughout the entire month of September. I knew I wanted to help support the charity in any way I could, and this also gives me the encouragement to get back into my old exercise habits but at my own pace with the support of friends. It seemed like fate and I’m looking forward to raising money for ALSF and also hopefully getting back into my skinny jeans in no time!
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It’s not too late to start or join a team! To find out more, visit their website here.
