“Let’s go! Let’s goooooo!!!” Yup. It’s Saturday morning and even though the kids have been awake since 7 am, we are just barely making it out the door on time at quarter to ten. A typical weekend for us is filled with activities. Like so many moms, the older our kids get the more it seems we have to do. There are days I feel like I should have the word “TAXI” painted on the side of my SUV. But I love it and I love all the fun times we have together and will take that “TAXI” sign any day of the week!
One challenge we have, especially when going to events where concessions are sold, is keeping my kids from eating a ton of junk. I usually go with the one treat rule, meaning if we are somewhere for the afternoon that sells concessions like an “On Ice” show, I will buy them each one treat, but that’s it. It also helps my wallet as well because a water ice can run you $10-$12 at a concession stand, and I’ve got two kids! I’ve noticed in the past that days where they’ve had no other options but cotton candy and chicken fingers and fries that the kids just don’t feel as well and the high sugar levels don’t help Mommy out at bedtime. When visiting our local play gyms, like Romp N Roll, my kids are able to drink their smoothies outside the play area, then run back in with energy to burn!
I have tried incorporating more healthy snacks for the road and the kids love munching on apples, mozzarella sticks, and granola bars especially on longer car rides. A few times my daughter wanted to bring yogurt with us, but that often led to forgetting of spoons (my fault) or messes in the backseat and all over their clothes. Then we were introduced to Stonyfield’s new sMOOthies and everything just got a lot more convenient! With Stonyfield’s new YoKids sMOOthies, all you have to do is remove the lid and the kids have a healthy yummy treat that they enjoy and without the “mom guilt.”
The Very Berry flavor is super popular with my kids and also at my son’s preschool. He loves it when I pack one for him when he stays for Lunch Bunch and a few of his little buddies have started bringing them as staples in their coolers as well. I also love being the cool mom who brings them with us to the playground or on play dates. I tend to just bring the whole pack with us so there are some to share with friends, or an extra for me to drink if I’m feeling hungry.
I don’t think my weekends of running around will stop anytime soon, and I also kinda like our active lifestyle. It’s fun to experience new things and take your kids new places and being on the “MOO-ve” is a requirement for a busy family like mine. Having an organic, healthy option like Stonyfield Smoothies just makes packing for those days out a little bit easier and a lot yummier!
